How We Work
I set up Mini Me Models because I always had a huge interest in art and working with my hands.
The idea for cake toppers came to me shortly before my brothers wedding a number of years ago. The bride and groom were remodelling a vintage car and wanted a model of the car on top of their cake and asked me to recreate it. It was a hit at the wedding and I was being asked for more and more cake toppers by friends and family.
The process of making the cake topper is a long one. I start (most of the time) by getting a photo of the couple (as well as any dogs, cats, cars, etc that they may want to include). I more often than not sketch the faces of the couple to a cartoon likeness.
The next step is to make the head. I work the clay to the general shape of the head adding the features bit by bit.

Then I make the body of the models with the details the couple have requested (jerseys, uniforms etc). I then bake the model.

Once the cake topper is fully set I add on the finishing touches. I then gloss the cake topper and fix to the base.
As simple as this all sounds, some cake toppers can take up to eight hours to complete. I am a stickler for detail and want to make each cake topper unique for the couple. People are always amazed to see the extent of the detail in each model but I believe it is the small details that give my Cake Toppers character.
